Birthday Shout-Out: Zora Neale Hurston
My appreciation for this woman was cemented when my 11th grade teacher made me memorize "How It Feels to be Colored Me" in its entirety for a poetry recitation competition. When I spoke those words on stage, shaking, feeling like I was about to burst into sobs and laughter at the same time, I became a believer. See, those words are intoxicating.
